The client’s main goal was to remodel a before modest cape cod from a two bedroom to a four bedroom home with additional living space while maintaining its scale.

Aggressive reprogramming occurred during the schematic phase to maximize the function of the first floor space to which a new family room, larger garage, mud room, and new kitchen were added. An effort was made to maintain an open floor plan on the first floor, with communication between the new family room and renovated kitchen, both with trayed ceilings. The entrances to the home were also renovated by providing a new front porch for entertaining at the main entry, and a new secondary entry porch adjacent to the kitchen at the side of the residence. The major challenge of enclosing four bedrooms with ample closet space under the second floor roof was accomplished through multiple massing studies that were performed to acheive maximum head heights.

All new exterior materials were used, including the addition of engineered stone veneer at the front porch entrance wall and the new fireplace and chimney provided in the family room.
