Fitzgerald Architecture Studio FAS

Location: Porch and Family Room Addition, Chatham Township, NJ

Client: Mr. and Mrs. Nestler

Square Footage: 850 square feet

Phases: Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Construction Administration

The first phase of a two part project addressed the client’s main goal to add a large entrance porch to the front of the existing house in order to provide a more inviting and formal entrance to the residence, and to provide an exterior entertaining space. The porch wraps around the side of the house where a portion is enclosed as a screened-in porch and acts as a transition space between the exterior porch and new family room addition. The design of the front porch is articulated through the derivation of the building’s simple and classic architectural elements, while also adding interest through the use of complimentary architectural details. The porch is complimented by period light fixtures as well as a well-landscaped area along the front facade, that includes a new front walk. All elements were articulated in an effort to provide a sense of human scale to the front of the house while maintaining true to the architectural features of the colonial period.

The second phase of the project includes a family room addition at the rear and side of the residence.
