The addition to this New Providence residence was driven by the Owners’ needs to redistribute the existing spaces throughout the first floor in an effort to improve the functionality of the residence.

The initial goal was to provide a functional informal family room and dining area, that would allow for the existing living and dining areas of the residence to remain as formal living spaces. The new informal family room area was also designed as a multi-functional space, so that it could be used as a children’s play area. Additionally, the addition allowed for the expansion and renovation of the existing kitchen.

In order to mesh with the original construction of this unique-style residence, the addition was detailed with a stucco interior, and fenestration that included columns which echo the existing motifs found on the front elevation. Special attention was directed towards creating a dialog between the new addition and the expansive rear yard through the use of large windows and skylights, and plans for a future deck.
